Dracula ★★

Scavenger hunt #52
27. A film that was remade at least 20 years after the original (soft reboots are acceptable).

All the ingredients for a good goth time are here: three iconic actors in an overly dramatic love triangle, staying true to the source material, horny vampires.
But it just.... fizzled, for me at least. None of the actors seem to really believe in their characters (except for Gary Oldman as Hot™ Dracula, for which i am eternally grateful) and the dialogue, while often true to that of the books, seems contrived and grudging. Had the film either committed to being dead serious or silly, things may be different; as it stands, it teeters in a weird in-between of campy naïveté and grave self-consciousness.
