Reviewing In-theater & New Streaming Films

Living in New York, I was thrilled when Memoria made its way back to the IFC Center giving me the opportunity to finally check it out. In 2021, Apichatpong Weerasethakul made it known that Memoria will never be leaving the beautiful confines of the cinema - allowing a singular audience to experience the film at a time for the rest of time. Meaning, Memoria will never be on a streaming platform or come out on Blu ray. How could that…
Damien Chazelle’s 3 hour epic Babylon will have you wondering: is this a love letter to cinema or a hit piece?
As so many people know, working on set can be a shit show! But at the end of the day, we always come back loving being a small part of the magic we are creating. Babylon captures both of these sides in the most ambitious and cocaine filled way possible. Not so surprising, it really worked for me!
Unfortunately, the rich people exploiting every possible thing they can has been done time and time again. And while it can work (Triangle of Sadness), this lacked the Cronenberg flare I was really hoping for - leaving me incredibly underwhelmed.
Mia Goth continues to be one of the best actors of our time though.
Ryan Coogler manages to beautifully pull off what many Marvel blockbusters can’t: leading with heart. By doing this, we experience Wakanda Forever’s stakes, thrills, and new world exploration now that their leader has fallen, in an immensely heightened and personal way.
Wakanda continues to be one of the best and richest areas in the Marvel cinematic universe for me, and I’ll definitely be revisiting it soon.
Also I don’t care how many times Okoye makes fun of it - the Wakanda water suit is badass! I’d love to see more of it!
