Letterboxd — Your life in film

I need to think about this movie before i can say anything coherent but WOW i’m so depressed but so GOOD probably the best WWI movie i have seen oh wow and the cast was great even jon snow was good in this

MASTERPIECE!!!!!!

So, i REALLY love the book that this movie is based on, and for context, there is an entire first half that happens before this movie even starts. With that, I do really love the book more, but I realize it would’ve been difficult to make all of it into a film. I really love what this film did with the material it had. It was soooo heartbreaking and beautiful and ugh friendship!!!!! YES!!! Please support this film even tho it’s not in theaters anymore

One word I would use to describe this movie is “bleak,” and one I would use to describe the ending is “harrowing,” but at the same time the story was incredibly powerful and compelling. It’s is an extremely thorough picture of Irish history at its most volatile, and the fracture of brotherhood in its midst. Also, Cillian Murphy is so gorgeous can he please be in more movies pleaaaasseee (although i’m glad he’s doing theatre right now bc he’s an incredible stage actor)

C’est un film évidemment en faveur du front populaire français. En même temps, il dénonce l'hypocrisie sexiste des hommes. Bravo Renoir! Ce film est tout à fait révolutionnaire pour la période.

So much of this movie resonated with me as I was also the token “quiet girl” who was desperately seeking out validation in sometimes unorthodox and awkward ways. This movie shows that your thoughts and emotions are valid and profound even if you’re young and when there are cruel people there are also loving people.

this is a masterpiece, actually!

Well, first of all, that made me more viscerally uncomfortable and upset than I’ve ever been in a movie :) Also, this whole thing really played out like a modern Poe story. Grave-robbing, monomania, neuroticism, the gothic, birds. So that was fun.

WELL i finally watched this after reading the book a few months ago and i do prefer the book because it gives you intimate access to the minds of both amy and nick, but this movie was excellent as far as adaptations go. amy dunne stan card laminated!
