Enfant du Siècle’s review published on Letterboxd:
Leos Carax's long-awaited return is an eccentric rock opera that tells the tragic story of a passionate and self-destructive man who reaches the pinnacle of his career and whose personal life seems perfect, but who ends up losing absolutely everything. This is an elegant and visually sophisticated work, a bizarre and ambitious fantasy that serves as a critique of show business and the price of fame. At the same time, the director offers an overview of the contemporary world we live in and its social issues. Annette will hardly remain indifferent to anyone who dares to delve into the universe created by Carax; it may not be one of the French filmmaker's finest works, but it is a stimulating and original piece and that is something to always be grateful for.
