Singin' in the Rain

Singin' in the Rain ★★★★★

A classic that lives up to its reputation. I was expecting a good time but I was certainly not ready to be drawn and captivated by this fascinating piece of cinema.

While it's clear that the film has a lot visual qualities (costumes, production design, cinematography), its true essence can be found in the performances and, of course, the musical numbers. From the title song to Make 'Em Laugh and Good Morning it's easy to get carried away by the sheer happiness they convey. Furthermore, most of the musical pieces are accompanied by some of the most incredible choregraphies I've ever seen.

This is the first time I've seen Gene Kelly in a film and I was absolutely mesmerized with his immense talent, charisma and good looks; this is Kelly's show and he does not spare when it comes to display what a gifted performer he was. Joining him we have the sweet and captivating Debbie Reynolds, the likeability and humour of Donald O'Connor and the very funny Jean Hagen.

A musical about films and actors, there's romance, comedy, catchy tunes and impressive dance routines, Singin' in the Rain is a colorful, vibrant and joyful little universe. A true masterpiece.
