Beautifully gristly and atmospheric. Robert Eggers proves again that he’s the king of making these beautifully horrible period films. There’s so much attention to detail and craft on display here down to the production design and the films flowing camera. It feels like it’s just skirting the edges of saying something bigger but doesn’t quite get there. It’s a pretty simple film that won’t encourage as much deep thinking as The Lighthouse but it executed what it was trying to do excellently.

Decent and I was certainly very invested. It just set up a lot of threads and made a lot of choices I wanted to see expanded. Even down to certain shots and edit that I felt just seemed too safe to be really impactful.

Very messy and super all over the place but come on man. Raimi is my all time favourite director and Doctor Strange is probably my favourite fictional character. It was practically made for me.

I just could not stop cackling at every little Raimism that they let him use here. Glad to have you back Sam

The Batman made me cry. Which isn’t something I thought I’d say.

I love a lot of live action Batmen but it’s always felt like a piece was missing. There’s a moment here where that piece clicked into place and I saw the character who has meant everything to me since I was a child.

A moody dark expressive and personal detective story but anchored with an actual emotional through line that gets to the core of why Batman matters.
