Nifty Buddhist horror that's never quite able to reconcile "we are suspended in a fundamental state of nothingness and our existences are dictated solely by stimuli beyond our control" with "a nude teen gets stabbed in the eyeball by a raggedy interloper." Still, the attempts at thematic depth justify the hefty runtime, and the atmosphere is impressively sustained, wobbling only when James Badge Dale has to handle a few canned Marvel-isms. Dug the look and music. This one, more than most other 2020 movies, needed the theatrical experience and the subsequent word of mouth. Sad!
