Oppenheimer 2023
Perhaps it’s too soon to make this kind of claim, but at least to me, this really feels like the piece that Nolan’s whole filmography has been building up to. One of the most devastating and frightening reflections on the nature of mankind and our role as the creators of our doom. If any film in the next decade has a final image as haunting as this one, I might retire from watching movies.

I often think about Bowie's exclamation of "It's the freakiest show!" in that first chorus of Life on Mars? and how the song is placed within the film. It could be said that the whole movie is a freak show; from Jon Peters to Herman Munster to Jack Holden and Rex Blau. Godzilla Minus One 2023
Completely floored by this. Outside of the unbelievable cinematography and effects, this has to be one of the best films about a nation's collective trauma following its most destructive war that I've ever seen, and ultimately, one of the best anti-war films as well. I could see why someone might think the human drama could be a bit too heavy handed but I thought it was wonderful, the characters were wonderfully developed and I felt so much for them. One of the most emotional endings of the year, the kind that makes me want to stand and cheer. Magical stuff.
