Soul 2020
All I wanted for the holidays was to see a hedge fund manager have an existential crisis about his life's "work" and go into a panic-induced frenzy at the office. Wish granted. Love the abstractions here (which become literalized in The Great Before's cubist overlords), but not everyone's dad is Michael Haneke, so I have to wonder whose children this was intended to reach. Either way, my nieces will finally know the work of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and that truly is a Christmas miracle!
(This film gets librarians like few others.)

The Jesus Rolls 2019
Had this not been connected to the Coens' film, I'm guessing you all would have been much more receptive. Trust: don't suffocate the legacy of a comedy masterpiece by acting like anything else (especially that which has been so lovingly rendered by an original cast member) is somehow scorched earth. Turturro's film could have easily been a half-assed quasi-sequel about Jesus "The Pederast" Quintana bumbling around in the greater Lebowski universe, but he smartly opted out of that death trap…
