I understand why this movie is beloved so much, but it really didn't do it for me. I've seen the rave reviews and read the hype - many people calling it as groundbreaking as moonlight, but the film didn't convince me of any of that at all.
There aren't a lot of things I like about this movie - and the biggest dislike is Armie Hammer's acting. I couldn't connect with him at all nor was I convinced with the attraction between Oliver and Elio. Timothee Chalamet was raw and convincing, but Armie just wasn't meeting him half way.... at all.
It also felt long, in my opinion about half an hour too long. There are so many beautiful long shots that are well lit and aesthetically pleasing, but ultimately have no particular relevance to the storyline other than that they're pretty. The supporting actors were all brilliant, but the main storyline and the supposed slow burn didn't move me nor excite me in any way. I really wanted to like this one, but it fell flat for me.
