erin’s review published on Letterboxd:
i would sell my soul either for or to ari aster, whichever he prefers.
i will be processing this movie for the next few months.
everything about this is so detail oriented and well thought out. i’m thoroughly impressed with the editing specifically because it shows how ari knows when to hold a clip for just the right amount of time - enough so that it’s uncomfortable but everyone’s okay with it.
as well, the acting was incredible. i always enjoy when i can feel so invested in a film that i find myself mirroring the actors expressions and in essence, acting along with them.
it’s then that i become self aware and realize that i’m sitting in a theater and not in the film itself. i truly felt as if i were there, which made it all the more impressive.
i never do reviews this long, they’re mostly always one line thoughts but if anything deserves my two cents, it’s this. thanks for coming to my TED talk.
