Ethan Petersen’s review published on Letterboxd:
It's good to see something that feels like it's such a singular vision. Mike Leigh's direction is really excellent. David Thewlis's performance is also infectious and incredible. Unfortunately the story just didn't really do it for me when combined with the longer runtime. I did love how certain dialogue scenes were basically treated like action scenes in terms of an increase in pace and character stresa. Everything with Sebastion fell short for me, and I didn't connect with the film by the end. Definitely a good movie, though, and I would definitely recommend it, and I'm looking forward to watching more of Mike Leigh's work.
It's a really interesting movie to contemplate about and such. Johnny is such an interesting, despicable character.
