pretty interesting to compare to the original novel and film especially with how much more cinematic this feels, in the best and worst possible way. it all looks beautiful from the snowfall scene to the luxurious set design parading throughout but this lacks the ugliness i feel like it needs, the rawness almost which makes your body flip inside out which i have felt previously. so many of these people feel miscast to the original novel and though everyone’s performance is fabulous it just never really comes together textually for it to stick in a substantial way. i was never bored, i was fully awake and engaged with everything but the more it went the lack of steam was becoming more and more apparent
