Ethan M’s review published on Letterboxd:
Mandy was a very pleasant surprise. I watched this film on a whim with some friends and it was absolutely insane. Once the cult gets introduced, the pacing just skyrockets into a bloody, vaporwavey, trippy nightmare.
Nic Cage has some of the best acting in this than I've seen from him in a very long time. You actually feel like he's trying, and isn't just in it to pay of his debt.
I guess the main complaint I'd have is that the vaporave reddish, pinkish aesthetic can be kind of grading on the eyes at times, cause there are a lot of long takes in this where the vaporwavey filter can make it hard to stare at the screen for too long for some people. On the plus side though it also kind of gives the film a very distinct identity, which is more than I can say for other weird indie films.
