After a surprisingly swashbuckling start in which the titular pirate sentences a wayward crew member to mutilation and exile, we find ourselves quickly transported to a later time in more familiar Hammer Horror territory—a small rural town in the foggy embrace of a hazardous marsh.
But treacherous terrain is not the only danger that lies await for the unwary. Local legend says a band of glowing marsh phantoms haunts the region around Dymchurch.
