"...I'm a what?"
I can't imagine it was easy to adapt as beloved a book as this, and I have to applaud everyone who brought it to life for launching an eight-movie franchise with such passion, charm, and faithfulness to the cherished source material. there's a whole lot of introduction and worldbuilding to accomplish in these two+ hours, and the sprawling cast fleshes out this world with spellbinding (sorry) magnetism.
bathed in childlike wonder to suit the outlook of Harry himself, it's a cozy and delightful first excursion into Hogwarts. every line is iconic, to the point where I can practically quote the whole thing from memory. while it merely hints at the epic saga this story will eventually evolve into as it grows in maturity along with its protagonist, the first entry offers a remarkably vivid, warm and wondrous welcome to the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
"I'm not going home...not really."
