Call Me by Your Name

Call Me by Your Name ★★★½

Call Me by Your Name is beloved by film buffs and critics, and I can see why. The story is of a boy in the 80s coming to grips with his sexuality when a hot stranger comes to live in his house. (Also Armie Hammer’s thighs.) The storytelling and cinematography are very pleasing and languid, perfect for a movie set in the Italian countryside.
I liked a lot of things about the film, but for some reason I wasn’t as invested as everyone else seems to be. I think the unresponsive audience I was with didn’t help—the environment felt so strained, it kind of seemed like they didn’t know what the premise was. Or maybe this just isn’t my style (?)
Hopefully on a second viewing down the road I’ll appreciate it more.
