Midsommar ★★★★½

I will always love how Ari Aster can make a world transformed by the horror of grief feel so real and overwhelming, but also uses narrative elements that make the story highly symbolic. This is a film that just makes so much sense to me.

Two problems: Ari Aster’s conflation of “deformity” and evil is a problem and goes so far as to be distracting in Midsommar. Also, the idea that any of the men in this movie were permitted within 10 feet of an anthropology PhD program is absolutely not believeable but I still appreciate it.
