    Marriage Story

    ★★★★½

Marriage story was far more heart felt and perspective changing then I expected. You know what they say, criminal attorneys see bad people at their best and divorce lawyers see good people at their worst - Ted, Marriage Story. This line said a lot about the writing and directing of this film. Noah Baumbach’s goal was ultimately to make you empathise with everyone in the heartbreaking situation. Marriage Story showed how complicated we are as humans and how complex our feelings towards someone who we love can be. The performances by Adam Driver and Scarlet Johansson were phenomenal.

    O Brother, Where Art Thou?

    ★★★★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I absolutely loved this film. It felt so unique tonally and was deeply philosophical. The film was thematically rich in the many aspects it touched upon race, religion, redemption and the unbreakable nature of the human spirit. I especially loved the seen where the three of the escaped convicts picked Tommy Johnson (the black guitar player). Tommy said to them that he had met the devil and that "he's white, white as you folks with empty eyes and a big…

    The Graduate

    ★★★★½

The Graduate is a really phenomenal film, I loved every second of it. The film is so beautifully shot and the writing was excellent. I loved how human every character in this film felt, you could really emphasise with every character and they were all flawed in there own way. I also loved the anxiety and distorted feeling the film created. The film demonstrated this through Ben's directionless attitude after graduating college, caused by the unknown nature of what his…

    Synecdoche, New York

    ★★★★

Synecdoche, New York was nihilistic in a comforting way. I have never seen a film like it, it tackled age old themes like death and ego in a fresh and eccentric way. I will definitely have to rewatch it many times to grasp the many themes and metaphors of this film. The only issue i have with the film is at times it feels a little too self indulgent.

    Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

    ★★★

I didn’t really get a lot of the hype around this film. I enjoyed it and had a decent time, and the film itself felt very original and had that signature Edgar Wright charm and style. However I do think this is my least favourite Edgar Wright film. A big part of why this film didn’t hit home for me was that a lot of the action felt drawn out and over stylised. I did really enjoy most of the…
