I avoided this film for many months. I should have kept avoiding it even longer. Unfunny, unoriginal, uninteresting and classistly unethical.
Honestly, I don't get the bad reviews. It was perfectly fine, despite its lacklustre central performance. The effects were great, the action scenes engaging, clearly shot and thankfully not too convoluted, and — more importantly — the treatment of mental health issues and psychological trauma more nuanced and thoughtful than in many serious dramas. McAvoy and Fassbender were a joy to watch. The movie could have benefitted from a bit more of Quicksilver, though.
