    Elvis

I just can’t believe how funny it is that Dutch Tom Hanks is obsessed with making Elvis sing Christmas music! watched with my aunt and uncle who kept recalling how old they were when the historical events in the movie happened. my aunt said that it was “too much” at first, but then she got used to it and loved it but thought the ending was sad

    Skinamarink

I saw this movie in a theater and there were about 10 other people in attendance. There was a lot of chatter throughout the previews and I was hoping it would quiet down before it started and, thankfully, it did. I didn’t hear a peep from anyone throughout the whole movie. When it ended, every single person was audibly disappointed. There were boos and groans. I heard “that wasn’t even a movie!” and “I feel bad for everyone in this…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

When Gemma took M3gan away from Cady and Cady slapped her I turned to the theater and shouted “me when I can’t find my phone!” and I know people would have laughed if there were other people in the theater, but it was just me. It’s a silly movie and everyone involved knows it, so I had a good time. Loved seeing that Weta Workshop did the practical effects and they did a damn good job.

PS - I had to fix so many autocorrected words when writing this so now I’m convinced M3gan got into my phone somehow and I’m scared

If YouTubers keep making feature length documentaries on HBO I hope they are all as good as This Place Rules

    Happy New Year!

I started reading this book, but I never finished it. I did finish the movie and it did kinda feel like the book. Liked it overall - wondering if some of the clunkyness with the editing and pacing is intentional or not. Adam Driver is great as always!

    The Whale

Darren Aronofsky watched Relaxer and said “I want to do that, but with George of the Jungle instead of Josh Burge, the 2016 election as the time period instead of Y2K, and writing instead of video games. Oh, gimme a fat suit too!”

Fraser, Chau, and Sink are excellent here. I can now see why this movie is so divisive as well. I think it mostly worked for me, but I also understand the heavy criticisms.

Another Scorsese I completely slept on - great script from Schrader and one of Cage’s best performances

    Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Finally, we get a Pinocchio movie where on his first day of life the titular puppet enters a church, mocks Jesus Christ in front of the congregation, and gets called a demon. Oh, and Pinocchio performs a song about poop and farts in front of Benito Mussolini and then gets drafted into a facist youth military camp. It’s a wild ride and the animation is whimsical, psychedelic, and macabre eye candy. It’s tone is a little odd, but so is the story of Pinocchio, so it works. It’s fun! This is also the second Netflix movie I’ve seen in theaters this week.

Checking out Ruben Östlund’s filmography because The Square blew me away and Triangle of Sadness was a good time. This one is uncomfortable, but full of surprises and very well done

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Fun from beginning to end - huge laughs from the theater audience enhanced already funny lines and moments. Plays some fun tricks and has such a great cast! Only complaint is that Daniel Craig should have worn his striped swimming costume for the entire movie
