I like this one, I don’t love it. I think it’s a very powerful movie, yet also a little muddled at the same time. It was fine. It was pretty funny in parts and I thought M3GAN was a great villain, but overall, eh. But that’s alright. It was ok and honestly probably what I needed after the nightmare that was Skinamarink. It also marks my first time theater hopping with my dad which is fun. I swear, nobody does this shit like Jim. I’m really excited to see the scope that the next couple of movies will have, because yeesh. This movie really does fill you with a sense of awe and seeing it in IMAX 3D greatly enhanced that. I would see a thousand of these if they made them. Absolutely breathtaking. When I first saw the trailer with Perrito, I thought to myself that his character was going to annoy me, but his character ended up being one of the strongest parts of the film. Puss is a great character as the film works as a deconstruction of his character while Kitty gets a ton of wonderful characterization. Lacks the batshit insanity that made Trump Card so amazing but my god this does have its moments, such as Dinesh basically saying that Obama being elected twice proves that racism in America has ended or Home by Phillip Phillips playing over footage of Reagan and the American Revolution. I would also like to add that a rock version of the Star Spangled Banner is playing during the credits.
I think by the end of the day, I need to go back to therapy for watching these fucking movies.
