I was 14 when Scream came out and already a big horror fan. I saw it opening weekend and went back multiple times, eventually seeing it five times before it left theaters. I've seen a few other movies two or three times in theaters but Scream remains the only one I've seen more than three times theatrically.
Prior to Scream, I had seen the Fridays, Halloweens and Elm Streets but I hadn't done much of a deep dive into the slasher subgenre. Scream inspired me to begin seeking out other slashers, starting with the ones it referenced and digging further from there. The subgenre has since become my favorite. And, in a subgenre with many highs and lows, Scream was and remains a high point.
