HoopTober 8.0 film #28 watched on VOD.
After her husband’s unexpected death, a teacher begins to remove his things from their home, inadvertently uncovering dark secrets that will lead her down a rabbit hole of insanity.

I loved this movie, loved it… until the ending. It was like they wrote a different ending that didn’t test well so they rushed this one and slapped it on. It was so sweet and cheesy and completely missed the tone of the rest of the movie. It was such a 180 from the rest of the film and ended so abruptly that it was jarring.

This is the craziest episode of Wild Kratts ever.

Joking aside, the use of black and white makes the film feel timeless. I’m not familiar with Estonia, its culture, history, or folklore so it was very surreal and odd but that did not take away from my appreciation of the story.

HoopTober film #14 The Old Dark House (1932) watched on Kanopy.

Two groups of travelers become stranded in a fierce storm and are forced to seek refuge in a remote manor house occupied by a bizarre family and their menacing mute servant. This film is ripe for a remake. While it is good for its time it doesn’t really hold up in the nearly 90 years since it was made. Sound was still new, forcing quite a few scenes at…
