'It's all a strip club; you have people tossing the money, and people doing the dance.'

A lot of film's shoot for a killer final line, to sum up the movie in a way that will stick in everyone's heads. They nearly always fuck this up.

JLo's final line in this is that rare time when they nail it. Her delivery adds to it too; cynical, world weary, but also kind of like: why would it be any other way?…

    ★★★★½

Tonight I watched 'Whisper of the Heart', a Ghibli anime about a creative young high school girl, who meets a boy who wants to be a violin maker.

I have seen the future, and the future will be screened at a VERY high frame rate!

The 4K, 3D, 60 FPS (the future will also have a surfeit of acronyms) imagery looks dazzling... at times. ★★★★

A film that radiates that rarest of modern film currency; charm. Director David Lowery has a great feel for this material, an intrinsic understanding that is reflected in all of his choices. The performances are really wonderful; Redford's best role in decades, his scenes with Spacek are perfection. My favourite individual bit; Tom Waits, one of Redford's crew: 'And that's why I hate Christmas!'
