As the title suggests, Nobody Loves You and You Don’t Deserve to Exist is a lonely, lonely film. Told predominantly through monologues, Brett Gregory captures the systemic loneliness of Britain over time.
While there are some tonal inconsistencies - particularly with the addition of an awkward voice-over narration - the film feels like a love letter to literature, to a lost passion. Jack is a grieving man, bitterly reflecting on his actions…

Yeah no one could have done this but Cate.
Fields direction is clean but what truly works here is this ghostly, haunting essence that hangs over Lydia and the audience for the bulk of the film. Beautifully tying itself to the films broader look into ignorance and obsession.
I definitely need to think on this ending more, I’m not entirely satisfied.
