Where has this movie been this whole time?! I had vaguely heard of it when it came out, but I didn’t expect it to be this much fun. Warmly acted, dazzlingly bright, and bursting with childlike wonder, Fantastic Beasts is an exuberant addition to the already vast world of Harry Potter. With inklings of the wider Potter world, while also being an interesting and engaging story on its own, the film is exactly what prequels and spinoffs should strive for.

Highlights of the film include a breakout performance as a bumbling sidekick by Dan Fogler, a charmingly befuddled Hugh Grant-like performance by Eddie Redmayne, and a delightful presence…
