Body Bags

Body Bags ★★★

One of the better horror anthologies from the period. All episodes deal with appearance in manner or other and the second and third play pretty much the same ironical notes one for laughs and the other very seriously. The Hooper episode is mostly a misfire despite drawing some energy from his crassness. Almost everyone seems to prefer Carpenter’s opener Gas Station, a very solid genre riff that is wonderful executed, but I like his second entry Hair more, just a perfect sustain nasty comic horror helped by a wonderful send-off of wounded male pride from Stacy Keach. It is obvious, but that comes with the short horror territory but it very well sustained and perfect concentrated (I’m sure it beats some record in amount of times the word “hair” can be spoken in 25 minutes).
