I feel like someone made this movie in a lab specifically so I'd like it

As Good As It Gets in Swedish suburbia.

Nearly perfect and completely bittersweet, A Man Called Ove succeeds as both a black comedy and a heartwarming character study of the quintessential grumpy old neighbor. This is a simple little movie, but it’s incredibly poignant and consistently moving. Everyone has a story of love and loss, even if they seem like an old fart right now.

This might be a five-starrer if it didn’t have a godawful pop song over the final shot — it’s like putting a bumper sticker on a luxury sports car. If you like Up, Magnolia, As Good as It Gets, or Hunt for the Wilderpeople, try this one, too.

A Man Called Ove is a wonderful tale of love, loss, friendship and... cars. Just like the book, it's straightforward, but heartwarming and bittersweet. It gives a backstory to the Grumpy Old Man you see on the street and shows that appearances are misleading more often than not.

Ove is a man with a tough exterior. Having lost his wife recently, he has a hard time letting new people in, but has an even harder time sending his neighbors, the cat, and every other person who latches onto him away. Every memory, every quirk, every action pokes at his tough exterior and reveals a (big) heart of gold.

It's difficult not to fall in love with Ove's world, as it's one where kindness reigns and even the grumpiest of Grumpy Old Men can find a reason to smile and to live.

i have to admit i'm a little disappointed by this film!!! the story really attracted my attention but the whole thing left me on a "meh" note. 
the love story is really beautiful and touching, i got fond of ove quickly, he's engaging, charming and a little grumpy, but some dialogues, the character's obsessions for some things and the aggressive tone kept me from really loving this film more, even though i love movies with grumpy old men. 
the end was devastating though, and this movie was overall worth the watch.

I am such a sucker for the "sad old man learns life is still worth living" genre, and old men don't get much sadder than Ove. We join him six months after his wife died, and in a series of flashbacks - inspired by his various suicide attempts, because Scandinavian humour is daaaark - we learn that she was the sparkling, optimistic part of his life that stopped his natural grumpiness from completely taking over. Until, well... now.

Inevitably, a bunch of new neighbours and AN INCREDIBLE, SUPER-FLUFFY CAT stumble into his life and he is gradually forced to admit that maybe his life isn't totally over just yet. I'm sure most people have seen variations on this story many times before - the similarities to St. Vincent are almost uncanny, for example. But if you click on that link you'll see that I gave St. Vincent five tear-and-cat-hair-stained stars and fuck it, I'm doing the same here.

I don’t know whether it’s lockdown blues, but I cried nearly as much as the first ten minutes of UP.

i hate that this film has to be overshadowed by the fact that it lost in a category to... *gags* suicide squad *runs to furiously brush teeth*

That cat deserves an oscar!

Good transitions between present and past. One plot point involving a minor character was a bit wobbly, but the rest of the story was absorbing.

Warm and funny with dramatic and comedic turns round every corner. A pleasant surprise with an in-form Rolf Lassgård in the lead.

A very good film, but that was the oldest looking 60 year old man I ever done seen

they made the old man flashbacks from up into a whole movie 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I'm not crying, Ove just threw an onion in my eye.

The first half of of the top-notch healthily dosed dry humor was outstanding however as often such movies go that gave way to a pretty much standard character story and just lost it's originality for the sake of predictable emotional impact.

Ended up being a very sweet movie, even though it contained some pretty dark scenes.

crying but in swedish

after reading the book, i have to say; the book was better. of course. there were beautiful moments that didn’t make it because they had to cram in 350 pages into 2 hours, and the way the story was told had to be altered for a screen adaptation, losing some of the beauty. 
however, i will give this the best compliment you can give the movie adaptation of one of your favourite stories; it did the book justice.
