Although "Alyce Kills" is marketed as a horror film, it adds shades of psychological drama and pitch black comedy to its genre mix. The blend makes for an interesting and mostly effective pastiche.
The film's focus is Alyce, a young woman who, after her best friend is gravely injured in an accident, enters headlong into a downward spiral of depravity. Drugs, sex, and murder invade Alyce's life as she deals with the fallout of the accident. Early on, the film is an exploration of the dark corners in which Alyce finds herself, but it reaches unhinged levels of mayhem as it approaches its climax. It is a compelling narrative and character study.
