Experiencing Mark Proksch's prolonged duck impression was the most satisfying cinematic moment in all my film-watching years.
Frightfest 2016 Film # 3
Ok, so after the first two films (I missed the 3 films on opening night) it was pretty safe to say that this years frightfest was off to a bang average start, good job things were about to take an up swing in the awesome direction. Another Evil was my first journey into the discovery screens this weekend and I made the decision to see the film based solely on the cool ass poster, luckily it turned out to be a good choice.
A real original feeling story that gets the sometimes awkward balance between horror and comedy just right. Steve Zissis stars as Dan, an unassuming family man and abstract artist, while spending time…
Bizarre, original and hilarious. If you like Creep or The Cable Guy, you'll enjoy this!
I REALLY loved the first half of this movie, it felt really sturdy and I thought I knew where it was going.
Then it becomes something else, something darker and it loses all momentum.
Bummer.
An interestingly funny and dark film about an out of touch ghost hunter. If it wasn't for the amazing comedic talent of Mark Proksch, this might not have done much for me. He kept it funny and intriguing enough for me to stay with what was otherwise a bit lackluster. There are a few great moments throughout and I was definitely a fan of the ending, but the movie could've been better overall. A good idea that just didn't work as well as it should have in my opinion.
An initial lukewarm reception made me skip this one back when it came out, which I now regret. It's such a unique take on the basic haunted house/exorcism story, wasting no time on the disbelief arc or any other such tropes. The script is packed with laughs, particularly thanks to the self serious absurdity of Mark Proksch, whose self described "ghost assassin" is a complex portrait of a man who both knows too much and too little to be doing what he's doing. Steve Zissis plays an excellent straight man to the supernatural antics, garnering more than a few chuckles himself. While low budget, the film uses great sound design and sparing use of it's special effects to craft supremely effective scares and memorable visions at key moments, then leaning on sheer tension to carry most of it's unpredictable climax. An absolute delight of a film, funny, frightening, and upsetting in equal measure.
Absolutely fantastic film that you will most likely see on my top horror films of 2017. This easily has some of the most likeable and well written characters in any film I've watched so far. This is a horror comedy but it's definitely in the mumblecore style which is much more understated and focuses on the awkward humour.
Dan played by Steve Zissis is vacationing with his family in their cottage when they suddenly discover it's haunted. In an effort to rid himself of the ghosts he hires a ghost hunter named Os who comes highly recommended. At first Dan is going along with things but as Os' rituals become more and more bizarre things become more uncomfortable between them.…
this movie is so odd and good, I will revisit it at least 10-15 more times before I die
Okay, are you sure you're not just imagining this? I mean, we did a shit-ton of acid back in the day.

An unwanted guest comedy disguised as a haunted house movie. If you like cringe-humor, you’ll be right at home, if not this might not be your thing at all.
The very lonely and socially inept exorcist Os Bijourn is played by Mark Proksch who makes a living off of cringe inducing and awkward humor. I mostly know him from shows like The Office and What We Do in the Shadows. If you liked him in either of those shows, you’ll dig what’s going on here.
Side note: I avoided watching What We Do in the Shadows for the…
Dan (Steve Zissis) is a successful artist who has unfortunately seen a terrifying ghost in his vacation home. His wife Mary (Jennifer Irwin) brings in a specialist in such things who informs them they are in no danger from the entities who share their living space. Dan isn’t so sure, and a friend refers him to Os (Mark Proksch), a “ghost assassin.” Dan stays at the vacation house while Mary and their son Jazz (Dax Flame) are back at home and hires Os in hopes they can rid the house of ghosts before Mary returns, but it turns out Os is as profoundly lonely and weird as he is effective at ghost trapping. Kind of a slow burn that ends up picking up and really bringing things home. I watched this because Mark Proksch was in it, and he did not disappoint. Fun watch that pays homage to films of the past but has its own twist.
A tad slight and uneven, but the good things in this are great: genuinely freaky, low-fi ghost scares, uncomfortable Dudes Rock/Suck vibes, Mark Proksch extending his range far further than you thought he could, all adds up to a winner for me.
Horror Hunt #28 (October 2020)
7. I hosted the June hunt and like a complete jerk, I didn't give credit to the wonderful efforts of EmperorCupcake's May hunt. She finds some ridiculously obscure but fun films to watch, and her reviews are always entertaining, so let's watch something obscure that she's seen. Has to be on page 10 or lower.
I thought this was really great. I watch a lot of ghost hunter garbage in television, and this is one of those worst case scenarios...or is it?? Enough ambiguity to make me love this fucking thing.
far from perfect but highly watchable. I want to see more in the Extreme Exorcism genre!
Il film che fa per voi se vi è piaciuto Creep. C'è pure Mark Proksch, pazzesco, prima che diventasse in vampiro psichico.
There's this guy,
it's just a straight-up ghost assassin.
Gran bell'esordio.
Watched to break up the pattern of watching fucked up demonic fetus movies
Marketing this as a comedy is maybe not a great move??? We really, REALLY liked it, but it shifts some serious gears halfway through.
