The final installment of the Back to the Future trilogy finds Marty digging the trusty DeLorean out of a mineshaft and looking for Doc in the Wild West of 1885. But when their time machine breaks down, the travelers are stranded in a land of spurs. My whole life I've remembered Doc's sniper rifle having four extra guns split off from it. This doesn't actually happen in the movie and I don't know where I got that from. Anyway Mary Steenburgen is great

It's so odd to me that Back to the Future Part II and Part III were written together and then shot back to back. Part II is pure chaos compared to the first film to the point that the film contradicts it's own "time travel rules". You end up with quite a silly future, an alternate 1985 and going back to 1955 incorporating scenes from the first film. With all that going on it still ends up being quite memorable even though the story is severely flawed.
Then you get to Part III and it ends up basically being a lighthearted western comedy. It's almost…
Anyone else ever think it was kind of a dick move for Doc to talk for three movies about destroying the time machine, and then just fuck around and build a goddamn time-train?

Cinema's greatest treatise on determinism comes to an end with an exceedingly sweet-natured homage to western images on celluloid made by one of the greatest technicians (the VFX in this are astonishing) ever to get behind a camera. By the end of this series Zemeckis at last mutates into a full-blown sentimentalist. Even lovelier, Christopher Lloyd gets the spotlight, indulging himself in a character he clearly relishes playing.

I like how you can watch these movies back to back and they play like a single long interwoven story.
The third installment is definitely the weakest for me, although it’s still a good movie. It still funny and Marty and Doc are still charming, but the story isn’t as interesting.
Definitely didn’t spot the The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station reference when I was 9 years old. It’s a particularly appropriate homage, since that film was made just ten years after ol’ Clint Eastwood squared off with Mad Dog Tannen in Hill Valley, California.
