The majority of this movie just does not work at all unless you apply a new lens to it– that every character we see is meant to actually be like, a third of their age. Then, it's kind of a masterpiece to me. Everything about this film begs you to see it as a childhood tale, from all the logic to all of the execution to all of the choices and decisions people make. Feels spiritually connected to Hot Rod in that sense (and really feels like the spiritual bridge between Hot Rod and Brigsby Bear!)

One time my dad caught some of this on tv and legit thought Jack Black was in a Ghostbusters movie.
If it had been 100% Sweded the film could have easily earned 5 stars!
Rejecting film as solely extant in IP, and accepting it as a truly collaborative document of the shared history and myths of a community, surviving even in the face of the institutions (i.e. Hollywood itself, gentrifiers) that will do everything in their power to suppress it. One of the greatest films ever made.
The final screening scenes in Be Kind Rewind, made me cry, for some reason.
Less a love letter to cinema, and more a love letter to the beauty of artistic expression, collaboration, and community. I dig that Mos Def and Jack Black share the lead role. It let's them both be a bit weirder than if they had the carry the film on their own.
After all the VHS tapes in an old neighborhood video rental store are accidentally erased ... two goofy friends band together to save the store by taping their own versions of these beloved Hollywood classics.

So after loving 'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl', I thought it was about time to finally watch the other movie about two friends making amateur movie knock offs, which they refer to as Sweded…
My favorite genre of film is Sigourney Weaver appearing on screen for less than five minutes, but still somehow being the best part of the film while wearing a powersuit of some sort.
This film as a whole is incredibly lopsided yet manages to be entirely lovable and enjoyable.
