After losing his wife and his memory in a car accident, a single father undergoes an agonizing experimental treatment that causes him to question who he really is. This is the second Blumhouse & Amazon collaboration as a part of this event, and it ends up being much better than the first (thank goodness). It still isn’t great, but Black Box manages to give an interesting spin on a familiar idea. It does resemble a masterpiece like Eternal Sunshine when you look at the concept of exploring your mind for “answers.” These scenes are far more SciFi than Horror, but certain creepy images provide a bit of that (if that’s what you…
I found the first half of Black Box painfully bland and so when the second half mercifully picked up, I found it entertaining however I struggled to be properly invested because that first half just didn’t hook me at all. There are some good ideas here but in the end it just didn’t hit me as I wished it would’ve. It’s not awful but it basically feels like a really competent and decent student film.
Mamoudou Athie is really good and I hope I get to see Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour’s name pop up again in the future.
If you’ve got nothing else to watch on a rainy afternoon then Black Box might be the go.
Black Box, the better Amazon film releasing this week, is like Black Mirror set in a literal sunken place – a story about a man grabbing at the dark to find his identity. A familiar sci-fi centring on memory that lost me towards the end but has a touching father-daughter dynamic.

Literally the lamest Black Mirror episode imaginable. God damn, what a sleeping pill this is.💊
A man Is struggling with amnesia after a car accident and decides to partake in an experimental procedure that shakes up some dark imagery in his mind.
I had a lot of problems with this but it didn’t bore me so I kept on. It gets very muddy in The who are we empathizing with department, the POV from which it’s being told could’ve improved that. The lead is a bit of a wet blanket and just has this defeated facial expression almost the entire film. It rips a plot device from another great film... oy I wish I had something nice to say here other than it was great to see Phylicia Rashad and a black cast in a horror film.. it’s not terrible it’s ok , it could’ve been better, I’ve seen worse, I never wanted to turn it off & it has a creepy factor that works actually!
Clair really tryna get Theo back on track, huh?
If you've never watched The Cosby Show, I'm sorry for the pointless review.
Pretty interesting concept that seems very familiar. It takes some ideas from other movies and add it own little twist and flavor. Solid acting from all characters but the little girl is simply adorable. Worth watching.
Absolutely bloody dreadful. It's like Amazon looked at all the shit Netflix originals and thought hmm we'll have us some of that! The acting was so bad I reckon I could've done better, and my filmography consists of playing 'young Scrooge' when I was about 6.
Quick Review
I run my mind. It does not run me.
Lo-fi thriller that's pretty much a fusion of the techno darkness of Black Mirror, Christopher Nolan's cerebral filmmaking and Blumhouse pop horror, Black Box aims high with its introspection of memory, personal consciousness and the complexity of redemption as narrative guides to an otherwise strong, emotional-based story. As another entry into the Welcome to the Blumhouse collection, writer-director Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr. has made a film that truly connects, serving equal balance without pretense, of empathetic drama and tragic terror to perpetually remove any sense of lacking oomph (like The Lie) that may override its conventional storytelling that we've all become accustomed of. Undoubtedly, Black Box takes much of its…
Black Box is Blumhouse's newest film about the struggles of an African American man after losing his wife and memory during a car accident. It opens with an amnesia that descends into a dark truth with its intriguing premises that threatens the reality and nightmare of an identity that gets lost.
Black box is a decent thriller that forces the viewers to examine intersectionality at its centre with such social issues as loss, amnesia, trauma, memory, single parenting, domestic violence, medical ethics, and self-reassurance. It is packed with philosophical anguish that will leave you thinking deeply. Even if it doesn't get scarier, it mimics such reminiscent scenes from The Exorcist and Get Out.

The second in Amazon’s “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series, Black Box is about a single father who lost his wife and his memories in an accident and undergoes some experimental treatment to recover them. As you might be able to guess, that doesn’t quite go to plan and there’s a few twists and turns once the treatment gets going.
This really isn’t bad at all. It’s very familiar, resembling a feature length Black Mirror episode, and it doesn’t break any new ground but it’s well executed. Much of the film relies on Mamoudou Athie‘s performance as Nolan and he’s likeable enough, although there are moments where he has to do a 180 and become extremely cold and withdrawn as he…
an hour and ten minute black mirror episode 💤
handshake scene was cute tho I’ll give it that
black mirror. happy for the creepy bendy flexible guy, hhe gets a lot of roles lately
I paused the movie at 50 minutes duration, then I got excited for continuing right away after I woke up. But the excitement that I build in my first half wasn’t the same anymore.
Crazy movie with a good twist that I didn’t see coming. Last scene was questionable as I think it wasn’t needed
The first thing that came into my mind: Black Mirror! It's a good film with more potential.
I would recommend this movie but I did not love it, however trying to be more open to sci-fye

second horror i’ve watched in a row that got me emotionally invested in the characters - i want to see more of this! can’t really decide whether this was a super original idea or not, but regardless it’s new to me and the execution was beautiful, although sci-fi isn’t always my thing and the last scene was weak imo
Cool concept. I wish the “twist” part had been executed a little better or been framed a different way, but overall, was an enjoyable watch. Science behind memories and ways in which we try to alter them have always been interesting to me!
Ending was a bit weird for me buuuuuut it I guess it wasn’t as bad as it could have been¿
