The studio system at its peak made it possible for crews to make movies like this on autopilot, even for bushleague outfits like...em...Invincible Pictures here. Two parts romcom, one part newspaper picture, and if it's 'less than' a 1936 MGM A-production, its only shortcomings are the lack of star-charisma in the leading roles and a script that never... you know...sparkles with wit. Or anything.
Close to a pointless story, but with some amusing scenarios with Ann Codee drunken con-lady bit and Ray Walker over-cocky bullshit. But besides that Hugh Marlowe didn't exactly set the screen on fire with his movie debut and this won't go down as one of Joan Marsh better performances. I just felt most of what went down was very randomly written.

Reporter Garry Dane (Ray Walker) tries to gate-crash one of those fancy-pants Park Avenue evening-dress parties at the Allison home, where handsome Richard Taylor is trying to propose to pretty daughter Madge Allison (Joan Marsh). She declines, and Dane doesn't get his story.
But after the guests are gone, there's a late arrival, Mme. Duval (Anne Codee), who has a lurid tale to tell about Madge's birth: murder, prison, adoption. She asks for money to keep quiet about it all, or she'll go to (gasp!) the newspapers.
Madge meets the reporter at a party and they kinda fall in love...but Garry's other girlfriend (Inez Courtney) is a reporter too, and meets up with Mme. Duval. Who will end up with who?
Nice work from the folks above, but the plot falls apart by the end, and it generally hasn't aged well, given the central "problem" of Marrying The Wrong Kind Of Person.
This had all the characters you can ask for a B film...a fickle-headed socialite, two jilted lovers Hugh Marlowe (film-debt) and a vindictive newspaper woman...but to me nothing jumped off the screen at you...except for one scene with the newspaper woman and French "parolee" dame.
