Watching this before watching the original (I just didn’t have the time) is gonna go down as one of the worst things I’ve done. But hey, what a killer soundtrack brought to you by the Vampire Weekend Pandora station!!
Let's take away the complete and utter pointless existence of this film and pretend it's not a remake, but solely an adaptation of King's novel.
It follows the broad strokes of the novel, updating it with predictable but necessary tweaks so it fits the modern setting better. It has a great cast, with an excellent Julianne Moore.
And that's about all I can say about it without resorting to a fit of feet stomping and frowny facing.
The worst offence it commits is, bar the excellent opening, being completely bland. It dutifully and and mindlessly makes its way through the plot without any spark of creativity or originality. The first two acts are like tofu, there's no meat to them…

I find it so ironic that "Carrie", a film about treating everyone with respect, is getting bullied and criticized by critics. Besides the fact that it's ironic, it's also very depressing for many reasons. Most importantly, though, it's because it's a remake. Yes, I know everyone hates the word remake, but today, I'm going to defend them, especially this one, so if you're one of those people who can't stand them, I suggest leaving now before it's too late. For the rest of you, hang on, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

This wasn't in the slightest bit scary or tense. I would change the genre from Horror to Drama. Maybe this movie will teach mindless asshole kids to stop bullying others. Hopefully those who are being bullied will stand up for themselves. And more people wills stand up for others, instead of sitting back and doing nothing.

2. one of the only tangible comparisons I have is I prefer the blood coverage in this one, like the blood on carrie looks more intense here and I like how it seeps into her eye for that extra pizazz
3. the horror is much more intense because it’s 2013 and nowadays you’ve got to throw everything and the kitchen sink in to shock people, whereas back int day they kept it minimal. I like both but it comes down to whatever you prefer your horror films to be like, one is quite understated and one is a tiny bit more of a gore-fest
4. I watched this for the first time at a sleepover and I remember us all laughing about dirty pillows because we were 13 years old and that’s hilarious

Obviously this isn't going to have De Palma's formal power, so I won't get into missing it. There's one big interesting and purposeful choice here that I don't think pays off. Carrie as a character has significantly more agency -- she's not the alien of De Palma's film, which frankly robs the finale of its inexorable dread, and once the buckets start to fall that agency creates a blanket of safety, that only the bad people will get hurt; this is a revenge tale and not a tragedy. Things I did enjoy: Hart Bochner's weird cameo, the windshield kill, Julianne Moore leaning into mom's self-harm psychosis instead of her zealotry, and the new spin on the shock ending.

This isn’t your fault Carrie, it’s their’s. You know remakes never die. They just keep coming back. And I’ve got to keep watching them. Over and over again. And even though the third time’s not really a charm, at least Julianne Moore does her Mommie Dearest best to make this unneeded remake feel needed.
Sadly though, ‘dirty pillows’ and CGI powers can only take you so far…

Horrendously bad casting destroyed whatever chance it had. This 2013 Carrie is the painfully awkward remake of the classic 1976 film, which was engendered from Stephen King’s great 1974 debut novel. It is too tasteful for a horror film, heavy-handed in its empathy for the loner teenager, which is a crushing impediment to achieving any great pitch of horror and hysteria. Believe it or not, I actually used to like this newer adaptation of Carrie more than Brian De Palma's original vision. Now, there some aspects of this remake that are better than the original (being more faithful to the book, etc.), but now I know that nothing will top the fantastically choreographed prom night massacre scene of the original. Nothing. And that's another reason this version works well on its own. It doesn't try to outdo or even copy De Palma and what he did. It seems to focus less on the initial massacre and be more focused on the bullying and revenge aspects from before and after the incident, respectively. Hats off to miss Chloë Grace Moretz for trying really hard to emulate the vulnerability and inferiority of Carrie the way Cece Spacek magnificently did in the original, but even Julianne Moore's five-star portrayal in this three-star film failed to give the blood red on a pale revival. Still, a good enough try.
No se que tan buena sea cómo adaptación al libro, pero como película es malísima y si cuenta como remake es pésimaaa.
Los personajes no tienen nada de desarrollo y para mí en esta historia es de lo más importante porque Carrie y especialmente la mamá son personajazos.
Además los momentos más importantes no tienen nada de emoción pero sí muy malos efectos visuales, y ni mencionar las terribles actuaciones de todo el cast, lástima por Julianne Moore.
Sólo me dieron más ganas de volver a ver la original que ya me hace falta por cierto

So, the original Carrie is one of my favorite films ever, meaning I had to put in a lot of work to not aggro-watch this remake and that's a good thing because I'm shocked to say that I kind of like this.
I don't feel that this film is superior to the original Carrie in any real way (except, maybe for Julianne Moore as the mom). However, I think I've become convinced that Carrie is such an interesting story that I'm down to see it…
