I have always enjoyed this movie, but I think the older I get, the more I appreciate it. I remember watching it when it first came out and being very excited about it beforehand. The horror rags I read from covered it extensively and I even remember an article in one of them on Jessica Dollarhide and how she was going to be the next big thing and that never happened, but still I remember!
Surprisingly dark for a Stuart Gordon film, this has some gnarly effects and really intense sequences. The castle location is beautiful. It’s really impossible not to love a film where Jeffrey Combs and Babs Crampton play a couple, right?

Always remember when you get a new home, check for mold, structural damage, asbestos in the attic and deranged, deformed, muderous freaks living in secret cells in the basement. If you miss one of those, it can be a mess. Especially mold.
First Michelle introduced me to Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator, now it was time for his Castle Freak.
This has super impressive make-up effects and a wonderful castle atmosphere to boot. It might also contain the least sexualized Barbara Crampton role I have seen so far. Jeffrey Combs was giving it his bloody all (his screams and his drunk face, loved it!)

Action!: Lovecrafting with Stuart Gordon & The Talking Heads
After almost a decade since the release of the wonderful "From Beyond", Gordon adapts a new work by author HP Lovecraft with Jeffrey Comb and Barbara Crampton once again playing the leads.
Sadly, the wait wasn't exactly worth the wait. In part, it is good to see the director almost fully enter the grotesque horror genre with the couple he solidified in his first two films. The "freak" in question is fantastically played by Jonathan Fuller, who along with the incredible makeup work manages to instill terror and whose story and motives give the character a certain tragic quality that makes you feel sorry for this creature. Castle Freak is such a deranged and despicable dingus damn! Creeping around his dingy and deplorable dungeon double dang! This was an early 2000s DVD staple with my friends and I and I haven't seen it in a dang decade! Diabolical dungeon dweller debaucherizing the screen watchyo spleen! Dangling nuts and busting guts!
