I told Siri to pick a number between 1-5. She chose 2 so I will now set a timer for two minutes. I will write the rest of this review in the allotted time until my countdown reaches zero:
It’s no surprise that this movie is garbage. It goes down the checklist of horror clichés without fail.
It’s not even remotely interesting, as it was extremely difficult for me to stay awake during. Honestly, the whole movie is just wack.
AND THAT ENDING. Abysmal.
The scariest part of this film was when they said the Marvel Universe might last for another 60 years.
I do not recommend you paying—
one of my favorite things in the film is that the countdown app has a 3.6 star rating on the app store, which implies that some people (probably who had decades left to live) left positive reviews but other people who were actively being cursed and demonically death tortured by it took time to leave feedback for the developers. sample 1 star reviews probably:
"1 out of 5 stars. WILL curse you!!! but i had to give it 1 extra star because it has no ads or 'go premium' pop-ups unlike a lot of other apps"
"so stupid all it did was kill me!!"
"Honestly was disappointed when i saw how long i had left 🙄"
"I tried to use…
why the fuck isn't this a january movie. i watched it in january so i declare it a january movie, i said what I said
this movie is trying to set up a franchise like happy death day did in the most obvious freaking way...
"I will be right there."
This is not the smartest film, nor the dumbest. It opens with some teens making fun of vegans. Then it follow Dr. Quinn Harris, Medicine Woman, as she and others download an app called Countdown and find out they don't have very long to live. Not as smart as Final Destination or Happy Death Day, I found it watchable and engaging despite the late showtime. Elizabeth Lail, who plays Quinn, is a very apt actress. I'd love to see her in something better some day. Talitha Bateman who plays Jordan, Quinn's sister, is also very capable, evoking Eliza Scanlen. But time will also tell if she is emotionally on par with someone of that level.…
Am I curious about the app? Yes
Would I download it? No, because my anxious self would actually worry about the results even knowing it’s all fake.
Not without its flaws but it's basically the exact movie you think it's going to be. In this era of dishonest politicians it's nice to get what you bargained for.
It's very funny that the demonic app has a rating of 3.6. That was a really good touch. Any lower and they probably wouldn't have downloaded it, any higher and it breaks verisimilitude. You gotta assume one or two other people got cursed and tried giving it a one star review before throwing up their hands.
As you’d expect, Countdown is god awful. It’s a PG-13 “horror” film with plenty of shitty jump scares, weird music choices, and terrible acting to please the brain dead teenage audience that’ll unfortunately eat this garbage up. Fucking unbearable.
Its not terrible, the concept itself is pretty entertaining, although not being original. It has cheap jumpscares and some cheesy moments, but also a decent buildup and mystery behind it. If they played less safe with it, it would’ve been more engaging instead of being a tame Final Destination copy.
