An extremely troubled young man wanders the streets committing crimes without rhyme or reason, and it ends with a brutal and senseless murder. He is convicted of the crime and sentenced to death, but is the end of another human life the solution?
A powerful statement to the opposition of capital punishment, the fifth installment in the Decalogue series is simply an incredible film. A brilliant performance by Miroslaw Baka as the evil and ruthless Jacek must be seen to be appreciated, as words do not describe. The look in his eyes when he is killing and the trembling of his body just before he meets his own fate, so subtle and perfect.
The entire Decalogue experience is coming together as some of the finest cinema I have witnessed, and this fifth film is truly special.
