And here I thought Me and Earl and the Dying Girl was a game changer from your typical teenage coming of age cliches. This film did just that even more so. Filled with great performances, Dope is flat out enjoyable to watch. Dope is also hysterical. By far the most I've laughed in a theater so far this year. I had a really great time watching this movie. I pretty much loved everything about it. This shit right here was Dope (I couldn't resist)!

Utterly disappointing. A film about trying to find your own identity lacks...ehem, an identity. That may be the point, but it's silly, it tries way too hard to be "cool" (please stop trying to use clearly fake social media sites in films, it's fucking awful) and turns it's only likeable character into someone that was kind of hard to root for. It tries to be quirky in a Wes Anderson-type way in some scenes, but these just don't mesh with the rest of the film. Especially one that finds a character on drugs pissing in a bush. It's just a very sloppy movie. Simple as that.

Writer and director Rick Famuyiwa delivers an energetic coming of age film that goes out of its way to avoid cliches.
