A couple of elderlies try to survive in Los Andes of Peru while they wait for their son.
Eternidade
Of all the hardships faced by an elderly Aymara couple living between towering heights and plunging depths, the most difficult is being forsaken by their own kin. Call your mom.
sometimes it’s just u, your husband, a llama, and the overwhelming loneliness of the mountains
First movie entirely spoken in aymara...
What a beautiful masterpiece they made.
A mastapeece.
No, seriously, this is arguably the best Peruvian film that was ever made. Wether you are a casual spectator or not, this is no doubt almost perfectly made. The photography, the humanity in the story and performances, even the choice of making this feature almost no music at all, it connects with the audience by communicating that, after all, we are all linked to Eternity.
this is definitely one of my favorite films of the year and i am so sad peruvian filmmakers don’t get budget or support and that’s the only reason why more movies like wiñaypacha are not being made. i bet we have so many talented filmmakers but without the resources to make movies :(
+ roberto rosellini described this movie as: a cinema that captures men without makeup and without impositions of any kind…he gets it
A beautifully observed film that achieves simplicity through concise and unflinching tableaus of an elderly couple trying to survive in the harsh Andes terrain. The first film ever to be entirely spoken in Aymara, an indigenous language from the south of Peru and Bolivia, the two leads give performances that can barely be characterized as acting. Left me pondering the spiritual complexities of old age, companionship and the erasure of culture.
