What's wrong with Mickey Rourke's face?
A young woman travels to a small country town to kill her daddy but when he is already dead a whole shit storm occurs and she has to fight for her life. It's got a trashy neo-western vibe that kind of works. It's a simple story told decently and probably Bella Thorne's best actual acting, although it's still a little sus.
Color me surprised... this film isn't horrible... it's just not good.
Not a ton you haven't seen before (well, maybe the axe throwing), but Thorne and Rourke are both very good here, and they add a lot of texture to this small, mean little story.
This contemporary Canuxploitation picture is a gritty little effort that didn't come together quite as well as I'd hoped after a mysteriously bleak start. Still, I do admire the effort of first time director Chad Faust, who also plays "The Charmer" and steals some scenes from my girl, Bella (who is rocking that midriff again). Mickey Rourke is also on hand and it's mere coincidences that I re-watched The Wrestler earlier today. His trailer trash character is like "The Ram's" heartless cousin. Brilliant little contrast in these performances. Mickey ain't done yet, I guess. While he's far from the pretty boy he once was, the guy is still cut like a knife and he's freakishly intimidating in these waning years.…
A mystery thriller featuring an angry Bella Thorne and someone wearing a distorted Mickey Rourke mask. The film follows Girl(Bella Thorne) as she sets out to find out who robbed her of the pleasure of killing her father(she went to kill him but he was already dead when she arrived). This leads her on a twisted adventure of sorts through the shady lil town and its downtrodden townsfolk.
Loved the southern small town setting as it adds to the gritty tone of the film but overall I just didn't care much for what happened down the stretch. I spaced out at the half way mark and never got back into it. The big reveal killed any momentum there was.
Exudes serious Winter's Bone vibes thanks to the interpersonal conflict and mystery coinciding with a comparable backwater patriarchal shit show that simply doesn't come into its own despite a couple of solid sequences. As such this renders all of the grimy goings-on and reveals kinda moot as they essentially amount to the exact opposite of what we're initially lead to believe but the score is fucking dynamite and this is certainly a step in the right direction (finally) for Thorne.
A dark, gritty tale that features great turns from Mickey Rourke and Bella Thorne. Honestly, this may the best performance Bella Thorne's ever given. We've seen similar stories in the past, but the performances keep you going with a solid finale to make you feel better about the journey. I enjoyed what this was while understanding that certain elements could've been done better.
Fantastic Fest 2020
Fun, twisty, low-key, neo-noir rural thriller in the tradition of films where outsiders wander into a corrupt insular little town and find themselves embroiled in unsavory doings. Bella Thorne is extremely uneven as the interloper, a girl looking for her estranged dad - she can’t quite handle some of the dramatic dialogue, particularly the emotional finale - but Mickey Rourke is great as always, equal parts genial and menacing as the local sheriff. It’s no Winter’s Bone, but it’s worth a watch. Good soundtrack too.
A run-all-night thriller fueled by small-town darkness, flowing languidly between worsening situations and stark suspense sequences. As a brisk thriller, Girl is a gritty rural-noir success. As a story of secrets gradually unearthed, Faust’s storytelling is less accomplished. The hatchet-swinging action is competent and impressively savage, but the plot and people around that excitement don’t cut as deeply as the hatchet blows.

Feel bad redneck noir (written/directed by the wonderfully named Chad Faust) that never fully revels in its own misery, but instead focuses on delivering a tight little mystery with a thoroughly mean spirited center. Bella Thorne is badass as a hatchet throwing trailer park avenger, while Mickey Rourke exploits his puttied face for all its menacingly sad sack potential as a crooked backwoods sheriff. Pleasantly surprised by how well constructed this is.
Awful. Tries to be the next crowd-pleasing exploitation revenge thriller, but with an illogical plot and dull violence (sometimes verging on unintentionally hilarious), the whole thing’s a mess. Avoid.
Also, MICKEY, MY BOI, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO YOUR FACE?!?!
There’s dumb and then there’s but why, why was this even made? I mean did someone with financial means hear the name Micky Rourke and think they hit the Trifecta. You might be able to call Bella Thorne it’s singular asset if it wasn’t drowning in cliche’s, poor unmotivated writing and banter that amounts to the drivel between drunks at your corner bar. A painful watch to say the least.

Lots of cool organs and synths 🖤🪓
Angry Bella Thorne visits her rundown home town to confront her estranged father, but things don't go as planned = Dim exposition, dim plotting and Mickey Rourke wasted as a sheriff. Meh.

The grittiest role I've ever seen Bella Thorne in & now I want to see her do more like this! Dark, violent, & full of twists! Definitely worth the rental price.

Despite the poster, this is not a horror movie... except for Mickey Rourke's face.
A really great modern western that blends in film noir and horror. Super directorial debut by Chad Faust and Bella Throne reminds me of Jennifer Carpenter.
Definitely one of Bella Thorne’s better and stronger performances. This film was very well done and the acting was good, but overall it was quite dull. So many scenes dragged on and were really boring. I rate this movie a C+.
Watching Bella Thorne act is like thinking the tipping system should still exist. It's no bueno. Someone should be paying them a survivable amount of money like the rest of us, while someone should pay Bella Thorne to stop making throwaway, Dollar Tree films.
The entire film is pretty much edgy Bella Thorne repeatedly saying, "Daddy" and "Mama".
