Some tend to repeat themselves, which means that the same idea or story gets frequently exploited in the same way ad nauseam. However, there are cases, such as Nixon's, that appear to be so intricate and wide-ranging that there are several angles from which to reveal the extent of corruption that characterized his government and the era in general.
In this case, the film depicts a fictinal rendition of the 1972 United California bank robbery through the eyes of a man with charm, heart, and a fixation on Steve McQueen.
