It's still February and I have already found the worst film of 2014.
Piece of advice: Never. Watch. Gunday.
Once you ignore the shockingly low average rating on here and on IMDB, which I think honestly wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the historical inaccuracy in the prologue, this was and still is a pretty fun throwback masala movie. AAZ knows, understands, and really loves old Hindi cinema of the 70s and 80s, and every oiled-up, maximalised frame of this film is proof of that.
You can argue that its just dress-up, an imitation of that era of films rather than genuinely feeling like it (the way Raees successfully did years later), and the hammy lead performances don't help (Priyanka and Irrfan act circles around them lol), but it has an effective emotional core with a great final stretch, some excellent dialogue as well as a brilliant soundtrack.
I don't understand the hate this movie is getting? (ETA: I now understand the hate this movie is getting and it's completely justified) gunday is not very good, there's an excessive amount of slo-mo running and headbands, it's clichéd as hell, but on the other hand, the songs are pretty good (if you don't think tune maari entriyaan is a tune then idk man, idk) and while I wouldn't exactly say every second was unmissable, I never wanted to turn it off and I was actually INTERESTED in the plot, no matter how daft it is? and it is daft. all of this could have been avoided had bikram and bala just realised how in love with each other they…
pankaj tripathi dies within 10 minutes. this should’ve been a sign for me to stop watching this movie.
If this was a 70‘s Bachchan movie ya‘ll would love this more than Sholay but apparently no one‘s ready for that conversation on here
cant believe they say ladies vs ricky bahl is ranveer’s worst performance when gunday was standing right in front of them
the poster is what initially drew me to this movie. started off pretty alright but got rapidly worse as it kept rolling. 90% of this movie is man boob and the other 10% bikram and bala in bed together and slutting it up (real). ranveer singh was hot tho so who am i to complain really
The fight scenes are solid, but where Gunday really nails down American buddy action movies is in the homoeroticism.
