this was one of the most joyous experiences i’ve had all year and no i’m not joking in the slightest
If Davis had any chemistry with delightful Stewart that would maybe salvage her bland character but she didn't. Then you have incredible Aubrey Plaza as the romantic alternative for Stewart's character and it's just mind-boggling where the story goes. As soon as the cameras rolled on Day 1 they should have noticed that and just turn this into lesbian Get Out where Stewart's lovely character is trapped in that house with a nightmare of a girlfriend and her weirdo family. Just imagine Levy's character arriving in the end and rescuing Stewart from all of this and that's it. Consider this situation fuckin' handled. That would be amazing.
Someone make an edit and replace all that cheerful, Christmas music with horror-style score. Then that film will make sense.
if i could go back in time and tell my younger self that one day i’d be watching something like this with my dad while we made a holiday dinner... i wouldn’t have believed it
Depicts what should be an extinction-level event in this relationship between what appears to be an endlessly patient victim (who seemingly has no cause to trust anyone we meet in this film) and a gaslighting narcissist. If this was about a hetero relationship you'd be foaming at the mouth in fury about the level of abuse. I liked the weird sister.
kristen stewart and aubrey plaza took “don we now our gay apparel” to another level in those suits
starting now every lesbian can have their own aubrey plaza and dan levy as gay emotional support friends as a treat
I really dislike this movie, its full of stereotypes and was generally not a very joyful experience... it also lacks diversity :(
Don we know our gay apparel indeed, Aubrey Plaza was a side character yet managed to perforate my thoughts the whole time. I’m a very simple women, gay Plaza makes me very happy. Harper upset me a couple times while I do understand that it was hard for her to come out, forcing Abby back into the closet was off putting. Sloane outting Harper was uncalled for and made me really dislike her. Nonetheless I love Abby and Harper together and cried when they finally openly celebrated their love. Couldn’t have been better directed by Clea Duvall ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT WOMAN.
I’ve never seen such an accurate representation of what it’s like to secretly be gay around your family. My last relationship was with a girl and it was extremely difficult for me to tell my parents and once I did tell them, it never got easier. Of course, in this movie there’s a happy ending and the family ends up accepting the daughters gay relationship. Yeah, no, that wouldn’t happen in real life. At least for me. But I’m glad it’s at least (kinda) a better representation of lgbt compared to other movies. The main actress pisses me off for some reason. Kristen’s acting is always irritating too. Apart from that, cheesy but had its funny moments and was overall a fun time. I liked it way more than I thought I would
eu amei véi amo filme leso comédia romântica e passei a vida todinha me sujeitando a uns héteros sem futuro, feliz pois um sapatão sem futuro!!!! e aubrey plaza pelo amor de deus… queria uma pisa
You're trapping her in a box of heteronormativity.
One star for Kristen and Aubrey. I think they suit together rather than Mackenzie, I don't know... Am I the only one getting the "Get out" vibe here lol. It's also kinda cringey, it's like the story was rushed and didn't put any effort to emphasize things. I guess the best thing here is that Jane is an ally.
