must a show be good? is it not enough to have laura harrier and samara weaving serving?
the worst show Murphy has ever done and easily the most spineless thing Netflix has produced in years. i’m embarrassed for everyone involved with this masturbatory nonsense, a show that tries to make golden age Hollywood woke while refusing to truly grapple with the issues it tries to talk about. made exclusively for tumblr gifs and screenshots, i hate myself for wasting my time with this
There is a throwaway line in Hollywood where Ernie, hoping the film he's starred in will win Best Sound Editing, is frustrated when that Oscar actually goes to Body and Soul. He calls Body and Soul "that piece of shit".
Hollywood is built around self congratulatory masturbation for its creators. Lord knows how proud Ryan Murphy must be for rewriting Hollywood history in an attempt to give a voice to Black men and women, Asian-American women, and gay men who were critically underrepresented in the Classic Era of Hollywood. The thing is, Hollywood joyfully erases the real trailblazers and the real systems that kept interracial relationships, divorce, and queer characters off the screen. Never in the show is Lena Horne…

Some people might hate on this series for being unrealistic, but it is Hollywood the land of dreams. This was a really good series, with good representation which is expected especially from Ryan Murphy. The performances were solid, but the highlight are the artistic sets that take you back in time
Es bastante entretenida y disfrutable, hace mucho no disfrutaba una mini serie de esta forma.
I appreciate the intentions, I appreciate the sexy young people, but it’s just a big no. Also for someone who is always open to criticizing film stars coming to Broadway, May I just say that every time I see Patti LuPone act on screen it becomes apparent that she should probably stay in her lane too if she’s gonna feel that way about it.
Ryan Murphy definitely knows how to direct beautifully, however problematic he is with his writing on Glee and the disaster of The Prom. His shots are gorgeous, and Hollywood is no exception.
Darren Criss is terrible. I don’t believe him for a moment and there are stronger choices for a green passionate director. I’m sure Darren appreciates (yet another) handout from Ryan Murphy but this role doesn’t do him any favors.
Patti LuPone- excellent. Underused as of Ep. 4. The first scene with the family trio at dinner was terrible. 3 different actors performing for themselves and not reacting to each other.
Jim Parsons- excellent, unless he needs to cry.
Gas Station owner- phenomenal. No notes. A very specific character that fits the world.
Rock Hudson- phenomenal as of Ep. 4. No notes.
Black playwright- phenomenal.

While it’s nice to see Patricia Lupone leave her basement walkout apartment and Dylan McDermott appear on screen, the plot is cheap, weak, and is a fantastical whitewashing of what Hollywood was really like. My God — Rock Hudson, openly gay and in a public and interracial relationship? Netflix ought to have classified it as ‘fantasy’. To be sure, Mr. Hudson’s legacy is one of importance — Mr. Murphy’s kink of playing fast and loose with facts and figures is borderline grotesque.
We’re it not for a somewhat decent cast including Holland Taylor (thankfully, Sarah Paulson was unavailable) and good cinematography, I wouldn’t have lasted more than 20 minutes.
