Approximately two minutes in my first tear escaped, a tear of familiarity and empathy toward these characters, animated characters whom I'd just met and the piercing, enveloping grief they wore on their animated skin that seemed so real. I'd forgotten that these weren't real people, at least real people made of flesh and bone; that this wasn't a real story, though I suppose in very tangible ways you could say that it is, in fact, very, very real. In just 12 minute l, this short film acts as an enormously powerful testament to the idea that cinema is a place to experience that which one themselves may otherwise not and empathize with those who do.
is it bad that I didn't shed a single tear? I feel like a robot. Guess I wasn't in the mood for something like this but I went in completely blind.

Today: If Anything Happens I Love You
Hi everybody, this film may be short, but within just devastating 12 minutes of an emotional, heartbreaking story I pretty much felt empty and broken. If you have ever lost someone close in your life, if you have ever loved someone from the bottom of your heart you will feel the gut-wrenching pain as if this story of grief affects you personally. Despite the fact of being (gorgeously) animated it surpasses the fictional world and becomes more real and realistic than any other films with only slightly similar topics. Every single second is filled with beautifully composed substance and sense. An obituary to life that simply…
1950 does not fit into this at all... it really ruined the vibe for me. That’s... not what that song is about. I thought Spotify had started playing the song independently, that’s how much it stuck out and felt out of place.
Of course, it’s hard hitting and emotionally overwhelming, but that’s mostly just the subject matter and not really the way it’s been told. The animation style lends itself to the subject matter, in that it looks as though it was drawn on a school notebook. I’m sad but this wasn’t that great.
my god, when i realized what this is about.. it's incredible how emotionally impactful a 12 minute long animated film can be
@Academy, istg if you don't nominate this

SYNOPSIS: If Anything Happens, I Love You is a beautifully illustrated animated short film that takes us on an extraordinary emotional journey of two parents struggling to overcome the hurt left by a tragic event that leaves their family changed forever.
It has been a long time since I felt so fulfilled after watching something so grim and devastating. Having witnessed the inevitable and everlasting pain that is associated with losing one’s child (from someone close to me), I can definitely say with certainty that there is no timeline associated with grief or coping. Every day is…
a powerful and moving short, if anything happens to you quite literally paints a heart wrenching portrait of the perhaps greatest pain a parent could experience. although it’s less than 12 minutes long, this short is an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish, with the characters come to life through equally beautiful and imaginative animations, first devoid of any color, then with little bits of life and, finally, light. in combination with the simple but poignant soundtrack, this film is as much of a guaranteed tear-jerker as it is pensive and thought-provoking, and, in short, storytelling at its best.

this feels like something that would go viral on facebook in like 2012 also who the fuck chose a king princess song for this and why
Cortometraje con un buen mensaje. Quizá no conecté con el tono, y quizá me sacó de sobremanera la canción principal. Apela al sentimentalismo... pero pues el tema es duro. Bien. No me encantó.
I cried like a baby and that's okay. Great short with an almost silent approach to such a horrific subject. It should be mandatory to watch for any politician or person who just sends thoughts and prayers and says guns don't kill people!
