A small time thief from Belfast, Gerry Conlon, is falsely implicated in the IRA bombing of a pub that kills several people while he is in London. He and his four friends are coerced by British police into confessing their guilt. Gerry's father and other relatives in London are also implicated in the crime. He spends fifteen years in prison with his father trying to prove his innocence.

Watching this movie was like reading a book that’s a spellbinding page-turner. The last 15 minutes were a pure adrenaline rush. That courtroom scene was riveting. My blood was boiling.
This movie delivers a hammering rock soundtrack by Hendrix, Dylan, Bono and Gavin Friday, setting a high-speed pace as fast as we can absorb to match the scene’s ambiance: we breathe rapidly, our adrenaline begins to surge, and our emotions go on a rollercoaster. It’s highly worth a watch in the name of the father of Gerry Conlon.
It is with absolute sincerity and zero hyperbole that I declare Daniel Day-Lewis to be the single greatest actor to ever walk the face of the Earth. Bro could literally say It's Morbin' Time and make me shit my fucking pants.

Do you wanna know why this movie is scarier more than any other horror film out there? Because is about real life, about the injustice, the truth behind the curtains, the fight against the system, the violation of human rights, the lost youth, the innocent being punished for something they did't do, and being discriminated against just for being Irish. That's one of the reasons why I love biographical films.
This is one of those true stories that you can't believe really happened. Just shows how messed up the justice system can be. Its opening sequence sets the mood brilliantly. It's gritty, dirty, funny and doesn't hold back. It's not there to glamourise Ireland or England, it's showing the true lives and experiences that these people went through.
Obviously, Daniel Day-Lewis knocks it out of the park. It annoys me to think that he's "retired", surely he'll come back... It was nice to see him play a character that wasn't too serious. I've always seen him as a person who is dead serious 24/7 and one false move, near him, could result in death.
Based on the true events surrounding the IRA bombing of 1974 in England, In the Name of the Father tells the story of Gerry Conlon; a small time thief who, along with his friends, is falsely accused of committing the heinous crime & after being coerced into confessing guilty by the British police during the brutal interrogation is sentenced to prison life along with his father who is also implicated in the crime during the trial.
