Media depictions and understandings of mental illness, outside of abject figures in horror, are rare. When we do get these depictions, depression and anxiety tend to be what we see. These are the more common mental illnesses that many people experience in their lives, and they undoubtedly come with their own significant struggles. We aren't at a point yet where depression as an illness is truly understood by society at large, but as far as mental illnesses go, it's probably the closest to being there. Personality disorders are another story -- they're uglier, scarier. But they're no less real, and they're no less deserving of being understood.
