Joe Pera makes an honest attempt to talk you to sleep using mild jokes and low-key stories.
"If we're so tiny and insignificant, if you're able to find one person in the entire universe who cares about you, why would you want to disappoint them?"
Damn.
This is currently my favorite thing on the internet, and
easily some of the best content that AS has ever produced.
I don’t usually use reviews to talk about all of an artist’s outside work, but I’m going to here. This short definitely deserves its five stars, but I think Joe Pera and his work as a whole needs to be examined, this short just being the epitome of it all.
In many ways, I sometimes feel like I connect better to TV than movies. There aren’t that many shows I keep up with, but when I do, I just absorb myself into the world presented. Really, though, I mostly enjoy things like Nathan for You and Review, cynical comedies that rely on cringe for their humor. Take out the mockery of Nathan and the Nihilism of Review, though, and you’re…
This is legitimately one of the best things I've ever watched. This video found me on a particularly bad day for me and it somehow managed to alleviate a lot of the stress and anxieties that had stemmed from all the ruckus. Ever since then, I've found myself returning to this very frequently.
The title "Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep" does a great job at encapsulating what this is. He covers a wide range of topics such as popular dog names in the US and barns. (this dude loves barns) But then in the midst of all this he talks about Stephen Hawking cheating on his wife, to which he says: "If you’re able to find one person in…
I now have faith in mankind because I watched a video where a comedian talks about abandoned barns, baseball and crummy dates, in monotone, for about eleven minutes. If there are as many people like Joe Pera as I hope there are, then maybe the future will be at least a little bit brighter.
Short Review:
This was a very calming and well-made short. As with many Adult Swim specials the comedy is hit-or-miss, but for the most part this was highly enjoyable.
Would Recommend!
“If you have a crummy day coming up tomorrow, just remind yourself that, ‘At least I’m not in jail like Bernie Madoff.’ Or maybe you are. I don't know. I'm sorry.”
Bittersweet, incredibly calming, quietly hilarious, surprisingly beautiful. I’m so glad this exists. If you’re reading this, I hope you have a great sleep tonight. Good night.
“what do you think, gus? should we do a late night snack or a big egg breakfast.”
warning: this won’t put u to sleep but it will make you very content with everything happening in your life.
No joke, I stumbled across this two nights ago but didn't think it would be on here. What a pleasant surprise.
i have always found joe pera very comforting. hes a very cool and odd dude. i think the way be speaks and what he talks about is very chill. he talks about things that seem meaningless to us, but are actually very interesting. im glad i watched this along with another joe pera shows.
I had a rough night. Had a panic attack because I had a pretty shit day, and then continued to have a panic attack when I realized that tomorrow wouldn't be too much better. Wouldn't have gotten out of it if I hadn't talked to my girlfriend, who is, in my unbiased opinion, the best person to ever exist.
But even after we said our goodnights, I still felt a bit stressed, and quite genuinely, I needed some help falling asleep. And Joe Pera's beautiful, wonderful, oddly barn-centric short film was exactly what I needed — in more ways than just the “talk me to sleep” bit! I smiled a bit. I cried a lot. And I thought a lot…
i decided to watch this after aksel and adrina’s very positive review and i wasn’t disappointed it was lovely
i thought it was just wonderful, the music and his voice and the occasional beautiful quotes slotted with the bizarre topics just made it so enjoyable to listen to
in particular ‘if you’re able to find one person in the entire universe who cares about you, why would you want to disappoint them?’
it just. Hurt but in a good way
it’s a really nice video, and i like how it makes you feel better about life despite speaking about such light and silly topics. as in, it doesn’t talk about overly existential ideas which make you question reality. just sweet stupid things. like pretzels and barns. i really liked it
i recommend 👍
“if you’re able to find one person in the entire universe to care about you, why would you want to disappoint them”
expect myself to return to this video for many years to come this is so beautiful
It’s trying too hard to be sarcastic😕 but overall I guess peaceful??? Would be better if the dog didn’t breathe so fast
im still awake tho :( for the bits.
unfortunately, bernie madoff i am thinking of you.
